Representative Bradfield was born and raised in a small farm community in Iowa. A few years into college, she married her high school sweetheart, Dennis. They spent 22 years in the military moving to different states and countries around the world. Their final duty station was in 1984 in Colorado Springs; and they have lived there ever since.

Representative Bradfield, a teacher for 20 years, understands the importance of a good education to a child's success in life. She also understands the importance of a parents' decision in the school the child attends as well as the curriculum offered in that school. She has held many leadership roles from teaching middle school language arts, Department Chair for teacher development, Team Leader for teachers' groups, and sponsor of student activities, such as, the National Honor Society. Toward the end of her teaching career she was appointed to participate in the initial district and state-wide language arts performance standards and assessment creation.

After retiring as a teacher, she became actively involved volunteering with the Republican Party. From the county level, she served as Secretary of the El Paso County Republican Party for two terms. Then she was elected as Vice chair for two terms.
