Job Description:
The Colorado House Minority Caucus is seeking a Policy Director to lead and coordinate research, analysis, and strategic policy development on a wide range of political and legislative issues. The ideal candidate will be a strategic thinker with strong leadership, analytical, and communication skills, as well as a deep understanding of the challenges and opportunities facing Colorado. This individual will oversee policy research, manage legislative tracking, develop amendment strategies, and provide recommendations to guide the caucus’s strategic priorities, and issue messaging.
Responsibilities:
Lead and direct policy research and analysis on issues relevant to the caucus’s mission.
Oversee tracking and evaluation of legislation, regulations, and policy developments related to General Assembly business.
Develop and present written policy memos, amendment recommendations, and strategic guidance for caucus leadership and members.
Identify opportunities and risks in public policy and advise on proactive strategies.
Coordinate with caucus leadership to ensure policy goals align with messaging and communications strategy.
Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including policymakers, lobbyists, advocacy groups, and subject matter experts.
Supervise and mentor caucus staff, interns, or analysts assisting with policy work.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in political science, public policy, law, or a related field (Master’s or J.D. preferred).
4+ years of experience in legislative policy, government affairs, or political strategy.
Proven leadership in developing and implementing policy initiatives.
Strong research, analytical, and writing skills.
Ability to communicate complex information clearly and persuasively.
Experience working in legislative environments or directly with elected officials (preferred).
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Google Workspace, and data analysis tools (preferred).
Employment Information:
The salary range is $60,000–$70,000, depending on qualifications and experience. A competitive benefits package is provided that includes health and dental insurance paid primarily by the employer, life insurance covered by the employer, a Defined Benefit or Defined Contribution PERA retirement plan, 10 paid sick days and 12 paid vacation days per year (not including state and federal holidays), 8 weeks of paid family medical leave after the first year, and a complimentary parking space or RTD EcoPass.
