330,000 Households Lose SNAP Benefits as Democrat Senators Refuse to Act
(Denver, CO – November 1, 2025) — Today, Minority Leader Jarvis Caldwell and Assistant Minority Leader Ty Winter called attention to the devastating impact of Colorado’s Democratic Senators’ continued refusal to vote for a bipartisan, clean Continuing Resolution (CR) that would have kept federal nutrition benefits flowing to families in need.
More than 600,000 Coloradans, nearly half of them children, will lose access to their Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits this month. Despite having voted 13 times under the Biden Administration to approve similar resolutions, Senators Michael Bennet and John Hickenlooper are now refusing to support the same measure.
“Democrats in Washington are playing political games while Colorado families are paying the price,” said Minority Leader Jarvis Caldwell (HD20). “Hundreds of thousands of Coloradans, many of them children, are facing food insecurity this month because our U.S. Senators will not act on a simple, bipartisan solution.”
The consequences of this inaction will be felt in every corner of Colorado, not just in cities, but across rural communities where access to food assistance and local food pantries is already limited.
“Democrats in D.C. are completely disconnected from the realities faced by families in rural Colorado,” said Assistant Minority Leader Ty Winter (HD47). “Our communities are now feeling the brunt of their inaction driven by political posturing; they have no idea how a missed paycheck or a lost benefit can make the difference between putting food on the table or going without.”
Colorado’s Republican legislators continue to call for real leadership, both in Washington and Denver, that puts families ahead of partisanship.
“This crisis was entirely preventable,” added Caldwell. “All it takes is a simple yes vote to keep Colorado’s children from going hungry. It’s time for Democrats to stop pointing fingers and start solving problems.”
