Job Description:

Are you looking to combine your passion for effective communication with your interest in legislative processes? Join us as a Legislative Support and Communications intern, where you will play a crucial role in supporting legislative operations while also contributing to strategic communication efforts. Your organizational skills, multitasking abilities, and communication prowess will help convey the House Minority’s policies, values, and objectives to the public. This role presents a unique opportunity to contribute to legislative operations while actively shaping and disseminating key messages. Your ability to collaborate, create engaging content, and manage communication efforts will be essential in strengthening the House Minority’s presence and influence.

Responsibilities:

  1. Message Development & Content Creation:

    • Collaborate closely with the Communications Director to refine and articulate key messages that effectively convey the House Minority's policies, objectives, and values.

    • Assist in creating compelling content, such as press releases, articles, speeches, and other written materials aligned with the House Minority's communication strategy.

  2. Committee Hearings, House Floor Assistance, & Member Support:

    • Collaborate with caucus members, providing communication guidance and support to prepare them for media interactions and public appearances. Actively listen to committee hearings, taking notes on key discussions and decisions.

    • Be available to provide assistance and support to members during House floor sessions.

  3. Media Engagement & Monitoring:

    • Build and nurture relationships with media contacts, pitch stories, respond to inquiries, and arrange interviews to accurately represent the House Minority's viewpoints.

    • Stay informed about news and current events, identifying opportunities to insert the House Minority's perspective into relevant discussions.

  4. Digital Presence:

    • Contribute to managing the House Minority's online presence, including social media accounts, website content, and email communications.

  5. Research Requests:

    • Respond to research requests from members by gathering relevant information and presenting it in a clear and concise manner.

    • Provide well-organized reports that aid in informed policy discussions.

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Background in Communications, Public Relations, Political Science, or related field.

  2. Familiarity with legislative processes and government affairs is a plus.
