Job Description:

Colorado’s State House Republicans are seeking a Deputy Chief of Staff. This role is a crucial position that will aid the current minority caucus in managing the day-to-day operations of the House Minority Caucus Office but also in crafting thoughtful and effective legislation that helps caucus members uphold the promises and commitments made to their constituents across Colorado.  

The Deputy Chief of Staff role is an integral leadership position that focuses on the successful, efficient, and worthwhile execution of legislative research, caucus strategy, office operation, and staffing for the House Minority Caucus. This role entails routine daily operations, the planning and communication of legislative strategy between staff and members, to workshop and execute caucus membership district priorities and policy avenues related. 

Additionally, this position requires ample flexibility and the ability to pivot strategy, agenda, and messaging on a moment's notice. Serving the state of Colorado is an impactful way to make a difference and by providing ample assistance to elected officials will make a better Colorado for all. 

Responsibilities:

  1. Meet regularly with Republican membership and leadership

  2. Oversee daily Caucus operations

  3. Help plan Caucus initiatives, policies, and policy research

  4. Develop policy strategy and execution

  5. Policy drafting and workshopping

  6. Manage a team of caucus staff and maintain quality standards between all legislative aides

  7. Special project research and coordination 

  8. Oversee caucus agenda and prioritize based on deadlines

  9. Establish and maintain consistent communication styles and standards for constituent requests

  10. Manage, fulfill, and present House member research requests

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Effective written and verbal communicator.

  2. Experience in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Powerpoint) required.

  3. Experience with reading and summarizing legislation

  4. Experience with policy and fiscal analysis

  5. Ability to meet deadlines, and anticipate needs

  6. Attend and represent caucus and/or member priorities during stakeholder meetings

  7. Familiarity of the Colorado legislative and budgetary processes

  8. Provide fiscal, political, and policy recommendations

  9. Must have the ability to balance and pivot between projects

  10. Must be priority driven and a self-starter

  11. Strong analytical skills, with the ability to interpret technical and complex subject matter.

  12. Must be able to work collaboratively with others and to maintain professionalism with all staff and elected officials

Salary and Benefits

The salary range is $75,000-$95,000, depending on qualifications and experience. A competitive benefits package, is provided that includes health and dental insurance paid primarily by the employer, life insurance that is covered by the employer, a Defined Benefit or Defined Contribution PERA retirement plan, 10 paid sick days and 12 paid vacation days per year (not including state and federal holidays), 8 weeks of paid family medical leave after the first year, and a complimentary parking space or RTD ecopass.
